Kickboxing does not have a long oriental history, unlike most martial arts. It evolved from the “contact” side of many different martial arts. It is now mainly a sport dedicated to learning the art of “Full-contact” ring fighting – basically boxing with kicks. It was discovered that when members of almost any martial art tried full-contact with rules that there were very few moves and styles of fighting that worked well- these techniques were collected and improved upon to form what is taught in present day clubs. These competitors originally fought under World Karate Association rules but soon decided to call this new style of fighting KICKBOXING.
